Collaborative Dance Work
EXPERIENCE
From August 2022 - April 2023, I served as a dance accompanist at the University of Michigan school of Music Theatre and Dance, using percussion, live electronics, and piano. Classes I accompanied for include:
Modern (Horton) - Grace Bergonzi
Contemporary - Alexandria Davis
Performance Improvisation - Amy Chavasse
Other experience includes:
Formal study of Dance Accompaniment methodologies and history with Christian Matijas Mecca, head of UofM dance department
comissioned by ArtlabJ Dance to compose and perform music for Sagunja (Plum Blossoms) in collaboration with choreographer Joori Jung
comissioned by NeuroArts Productions to create music from ‘Self and Depression’ and ‘Neural Communication’ with choreographer Madison Rogers
As a percussionist, movement and dance are very much in conversation with my personal practice. The more I embody a dance with each of my limbs, the more my music comes to life. This one reason I enjoy working with dancers - I get to learn about how to trust the knowledge within our bodies, which is a life-long pursuit.
