Collaborative Dance Work

EXPERIENCE

From August 2022 - April 2023, I served as a dance accompanist at the University of Michigan school of Music Theatre and Dance, using percussion, live electronics, and piano. Classes I accompanied for include:

  • Modern (Horton) - Grace Bergonzi

  • Contemporary - Alexandria Davis

  • Performance Improvisation - Amy Chavasse

    Other experience includes:

  • Formal study of Dance Accompaniment methodologies and history with Christian Matijas Mecca, head of UofM dance department

  • comissioned by ArtlabJ Dance to compose and perform music for Sagunja (Plum Blossoms) in collaboration with choreographer Joori Jung

  • comissioned by NeuroArts Productions to create music from ‘Self and Depression’ and ‘Neural Communication’ with choreographer Madison Rogers

As a percussionist, movement and dance are very much in conversation with my personal practice. The more I embody a dance with each of my limbs, the more my music comes to life. This one reason I enjoy working with dancers - I get to learn about how to trust the knowledge within our bodies, which is a life-long pursuit.
